Welcome

Welcome to the Sumter County Property Appraiser’s on-line homestead exemption application. We are providing this application in an attempt to make filing for homestead exemption and other personal exemptions a little more convenient for you, the property owner.

In order to process your application on-line, our office must reflect the property ownership in your name. If you have recently closed on your property, please allow our office 60 days from your closing to process the deed and ownership change. If the March 1st deadline is approaching, please come into our office to file in person. Our office locations are: 




The following exemptions may also be filed on-line along with the new homestead exemption application:
  • Other personal exemptions such as widows, widowers, blind, disability, service connected disability
  • Transfer of Assessment Difference (Portability)
The following applications cannot be filed online:
  • Adding additional exemptions to an existing homestead exemption
  • When applying for homestead exemption on commercial, multi-family or mobile home properties.
NOTICE:
  • At the end of your application, a courtesy email will be sent as confirmation you completed and submitted the application.
  • If you do not wish to file electronically you may complete the printable application then mail or bring it to any of our 2 offices on or before March 1

Eligibility Requirements & Instructions

  • You must be a permanent resident of Florida residing on the property as your primary residence as of January 1st.
  • The deadline to submit the application for exemption is March 1st (for the year in which you wish to qualify)
Please have these documents available while completing the application:
  • Florida Driver License or Identification cards. You will need to provide ID# and issue date.
  • Vehicle registrations. You will need to provide tag#.
  • Voter registration. You will need to provide ID#.
  • Permanent Resident Alien Cards. You will need to provide ID# and issue date. A legible copy may be required to be submitted to the office.
The following is a list of information that you will be asked to provide during the application process:
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of permanent Florida residence
  • Date of occupancy
  • Date of property purchase
  • Mailing address listed on last IRS tax return
  • Telephone number
If you are married AND your spouse is NOT filing for homestead exemption, you will be asked to provide the following information:
  • Name of spouse
  • Primary residence address for spouse
  • Social Security Number of spouse
  • Date of birth of spouse
  • Does your spouse receive any resident based benefit (such as but not limited to credits, exemptions, rebates, rollbacks, discounts, STAR, etc)? If so, at what property address
